Valincia Williams Richard’s New Book, ‘Beat’n but Not Broken’, is a Heartbreaking Yet Empowering Fiction That Probes on Domestic Abuse

Valincia Williams Richard, an African-American woman who loves to write and spend quality time with her treasured family, a proud Mississippian, a dutiful wife to a pastor, and a CCHT at Fresenius Medical Care, has completed her new book, “Beat’n but Not Broken”: an emotionally resonant read that offers a story of an innocent young lady, Tammy, who gave her heart to a guy who promised the whole world for her. Tammy and Jerry were best friends before they started dating, she thought she’s known him already, so she agreed when he asked her hand in marriage. She didn’t have the slightest clue that a year through their marriage, she would be subjected to both physical and emotional abuse by the man she vowed to love forever.
Valincia writes, “Tammy was an ordinary, innocent young lady who fell in love with the wrong guy. He seemed to be the perfect gentleman, but little did she know that she would be deceived.
‘What did I say?’ Jerry replied. ‘You keep missing the part where I speak, and you obey.’
‘Hold up. Wait a minute. I am your wife, and I can make decisions on my own. I do not need you to think for me, Jerry.’
‘Woman, have you lost your rabbit mind? Do you realize you are doing what I asked you not to do? Who in the hell do you think you are talking to? You are going to learn today!’ Jerry yelled.
‘But, Jerry…’
It was too late. He had grabbed and choked her and punched her until her nose bled. He then walked off and went to the bathroom and got a towel. He told her to clean herself up and go take a bath.”
