TORONTO, ON: Local production house, Awkward Silence Productions (ASP), has released its RIFF 2012 award-winning comedy short, Mandella, for online distribution in Canada. The short satirizes the party styling of illustrious activist Nelson Mandela, and shines light on the fact that even activists have lives beyond the public eye.
“The idea came from imagining the person least likely to be caught acting out by TMZ.” says Dan Abramovici, Creative Director, Awkward Silence Productions.”Mandella is one of my favourite’s because it explores that side of comedy in a balls-out kind of way.”
This film is likely the only place you will ever see such a thing. To watch Mandella, visit http://www.awkwardsilenceproductions.ca/portfolio_item/mandella/.
At RIFF 2012, Mandella picked up awards in two categories; Audience Choice and Best Actor for Abramovici.
“It was a huge honour to have the film featured at the festival. We didn’t think we’d be taking any awards home” he says, grinning. “Our goal now is to bring traffic to the film. We want to get Toronto laughing!”
