Working from home sounds like a great idea. It can mean working your own hours, working at your own pace, and being able to work in your pyjamas. But is it right for you? Many people who decide to work from home may encounter some issues that they haven’t thought of before making the switch. Some of the problems can be minor issues and others might have return to your day job.
The number one thing that you have to consider is that you have to really discipline yourself. It can be hard at first since you won’t have a boss over you and no time clock to punch. It can be extremely tempting to sleep in or delay your work since you are at home. When working from home you will have to change your whole mindset because you are not getting paid by the hour. You will have to set yourself certain goals that you need to accomplish each day and stick with them. Only by disciplining yourself will you succeed at working from home.
Another thing to consider before quitting your day job is that it can get very lonely. When working from home you will not have a boss to guide you each day. There are no coworkers to gossip with each day. Most of the time you won’t have much human interaction during your work hours at home. Some ways to help with loneliness are joining online communities about certain subjects that you are interested or maybe taking your work to the local coffee shop. By going to the coffee shop, you can be under people and still get some work done.
These are just a few examples that can hinder your success with working from home. There are people who will work better by themselves and working from home will be a good choice. Others need daily human interaction and can get very lonely working alone at home. If working from home doesn’t work out for you after a trial run, you can always return to your day job.
