Shalamar Parrish Marks Bold Debut Novel With Leading Lady

Shalamar Parrish’s debut novel explores how one woman uses her charms the only way she knows how in order to take care of her family. Leading Lady follows Marie, a twenty-year old woman, who’s just moved to the suburbs of Ohio with her family with hopes of providing a better life for them as best she could. But the way she does so has some consequences.
Through the book, Parrish doesn’t shy away from the challenges and sacrifices that women face and how they navigate a world dominated by men. Despite the hardships, Leading Lady is also about a story about triumphs and the enduring nature of the human spirit. Even though she was raised in a rough neighborhood and works in an unlikely environment, Marie still manages to not only persevere but overcome any obstacle for the sake of her family.
Although this is only her first book, Leading Lady has already been getting rave reviews, some of which include, “I really enjoyed this book. I could relate to many of the characters in the book. Plot twist at the end. I’m hoping for a sequel. It was left open like there may be. Has to be, because I need to know what happened. It was written so well that you feel like you know these characters personally. Well done!” and “I love that this book is relevant to what’s going on in the world right now. It definitely kept my attention. I can’t wait to read part two!”
The novel has also been getting some attention by influencers. Parrish was recently featured on Storm Monroe’s YouTube channel to talk about her book and her life story. She also talked about plans for the book to be adapted to be film. Leading Lady has also been featured on Fox, NBC, and ABC news outlets.
