Hong Kong Proposes Updates to Mandated Safety Standards for Toys and Children’s Products

Hong Kong has launched a public consultation into proposed changes to its Toys and Children’s Safety Ordinance.

If accepted, the proposed changes will update the safety standards that toys (Schedule 1), and three categories of Schedule 2 Products, are obliged to conform to under the Ordinance. The changes relate to the following products (proposed new standard included):
• Toys – ISO 8124-3:2020
• Toys – BS EN 71-7:2014+A3:2020
• Bunk beds for domestic use – ASTM F1427-19
• Children’s highchairs and multi-purpose highchairs (domestic use) – BS EN 14988:2017+A1:2020
• Children’s paints – ISO 8124-3:2020

The proposed new standards are the latest versions of the currently enforced standards.

The authorities in Hong Kong will accept comments until December 31, 2020.
